From the President ...
Welcome to the first Banter for 2018/19 which will be a bit shorter than you are used to as we move to weekly publication. Thank you, Lyndall, for carry on with this task.
Another first for the week was the initial Club meeting to be held under my Presidency. We were a little down on numbers due to a rash of overseas trips and school holiday excursions and we were also short on apologies from those who did not attend. However, we had a polished presentation from our National Youth Science Forum attendee next January, Skye Holmwood. She spoke very eloquently on the subject of Artificial Intelligence and said she was looking forward to gaining career guidance in the Science sphere during her NYSF outings. She was accompanied by her mother, Fiona, who is very active in the NFP area in the Southern Highlands and will be a useful contact for us down the track.

During the meeting I reminded the members of the importance of the planning meeting on the 18th of July, and exhorted them to have the various committees up and running well ahead of that date so they could make meaningful presentations on activities for the coming year. I also encouraged them to read the think piece I had recently circulated on a number of subjects as it might help them in their deliberations. To that end, please give me your three committee preferences as soon as you can.
Finally we had the pleasure of presenting Barry Barford with a plaque representing the D9710 International Service Award that was bestowed on the Club at the recent District Changeover in recognition of the Medical Aid for Oceania project. It was felt that this presentation was most appropriate given the effort Barry has put in to justify us getting this Award.

I look forward to your company again on the 11th of July when we will have a presentation from Brigit Kennedy of The Loch and SH Clusters fame, which should be very interesting. Please feel free to invite your friends and family to join us next Wednesday.
