MAFO

Medical Aid for Oceania and Worldwide (MAFO) is an international aid and development project registered with the Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Berrima District. It began operating in 2010 as a single-product, single-destination project shipping hospital beds to Fiji. Today MAFO supplies a vast range of medical equipment and consumables to hospitals and health centres in some 20 developing countries throughout the world.
Since 2012 MAFO has worked in partnership with Ramsay Health Care ramsayhealth.com.au which donates surplus-to-requirements medical equipment and consumables from its hospitals around Australia. Ramsay also provides annual funding for the project to supplement grants obtained by the project managers.
MAFO has also benefited from equipment donations made by Bowral & District Hospital, MedEarth medearth.org and other suppliers. All goods donated are shipped to communities in need by sea, air and land modes.
In addition, MAFO assists medical and surgical training organisations when volunteer doctors require equipment and consumables to be shipped overseas in support of their training and surgical missions. A large range of medical goods, some supplied by the training organisations themselves, is shipped to overseas hospitals.
MAFO recognises that many developing countries now require some new equipment and, accordingly, helps with procurement and warehousing, thus providing a full-service logistics capability. MAFO works in cooperation with its shippers to ensure that shipments are targeted to meet the needs of recipients and that outcomes are measurable.
MAFO services many Pacific Island nations, covering an area that stretches almost from French Polynesia to the Philippines. It also serves Australia’s two most immediate northern neighbours, Papua New Guinea and East Timor, as well as the Indian sub-continent, Africa and, more recently, the Eastern Europe/West Asia border region.
MAFO works in cooperation with other Rotary clubs, both in Australia and overseas, and with RAWCS regional operations in Australia.
