MAFO

Medical Aid for Oceania and Worldwide (MAFO) is an international development project registered with the Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Berrima District in New South Wales. It began operating in 2010 as a single-product, single-destination project shipping hospital beds to Fiji. Today MAFO supplies a vast range of medical equipment and consumables to hospitals and health centres in developing countries throughout the world, with a primary focus on nations in Oceania and Australia's most immediate northern neighbours in South-East Asia.
Ramsay Health Care is a partner, supplying equipment and providing funds for the project. All goods donated are shipped to approved overseas aid and development projects - and occasionally to remote areas of Australia - by sea, air and land modes. MAFO works in cooperation with its shippers to ensure that shipments are targeted to meet the needs of recipients and that outcomes are measurable.
MAFO also assists medical and surgical training organisations when volunteer doctors require equipment and consumables to be shipped overseas in support of their training and surgical missions. Other organisations seeking shipment of medical equipment or supplies should apply in writing using the form below. It should be noted that while equipment and supplies are donated free of charge, applicants must have funds available to cover shipping costs. Applicants must also meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Must be a not-for-profit organisation, preferably registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC);
  • If an overseas organisation, must have a sponsor or representative in Australia;
  • Supported by another Rotary club, either in Australia or overseas;
  • Have a proven track record in humanitarian aid and development;
  • Have an established aid or development project already in place at the intended destination.
Unsolicited applications from organisations or individuals that do not meet the criteria will not be considered.

A copy of MAFO's general terms and conditions will be supplied on request. MAFO works in cooperation with other Rotary clubs, both in Australia and overseas, and with RAWCS regional operations in Australia.
